Newport Beach Centennial book will be available Wednesday.
If Newport Beach's centennial launch party, Rose Parade float, birthday cake and official centennial baby weren't enough, residents can commemorate the city's 100th birthday on their bookshelves with a limited edition book coming out today.
The 100-page book, "Newport Beach Centennial: Celebrating a Century 1906-2006," covers about a dozen themes from Newport Beach history — the importance of water and the harbor, for example — and is filled with personal anecdotes and pictures, many that haven't been previously published.
Softcover copies of the book will be sold for $20 at Sunday's closing centennial celebration, and then for $25 at the city clerk's office and recreation department at City Hall, the Newport Beach Central Library, and Lido Village Books. A limited number of hardcover copies will also be available.
Christopher Trela, the book's author, will give a presentation on the book at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the central library, 1000 Avocado Ave. For information on the centennial book, go to http://www.newportbeachca.gov/centennial_legacy_project.htm .
