FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEWPORT BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY NAMED FOUR-STAR LIBRARY
Newport Beach, CA (October 14, 2010) – The Newport Beach Public Library recently received a four-star rating as one of “America’s Star Libraries” in The Library Journal Index of Public Library Service 2010.
The Newport Beach Public Library was one of just 258 “Star” libraries recognized as outstanding by “Library Journal” out of 7,407 U.S. public libraries submitting data. The ratings are based on 2008 data reported by public libraries to their state library agencies and compiled nationally by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Statistics considered in the rating process include per capita measures of circulation, visits, program attendance and Internet computer use. The index measured how Newport Beach Public Library’s selected services compared with libraries with similar budgets.
The Newport Beach Public Library has been previously ranked on the list of America’s “Star” Libraries, but increased its score to achieve the four-star level.
The Newport Beach Public Library system includes the Central Library and three branch libraries: Mariners, Balboa and Corona del Mar.
