Tutors & Volunteers
Tutors do not need to have an background in teaching, nor do they need to know how to teach. Tutors must:
- have the desire to help somebody else achieve their goal
- be at least 24 years of age
- complete the orientation and a 6 hour training
- be able to commit to meeting their learner for a minimum of 1 hour per week for 1 year
- participate in at least 2 tutor meetings or trainings per year
- complete and submit reports as requested
Orientation and training
Tutors are required to attend a brief orientation and complete 6+ hours of tutor training. The next orientation is scheduled for January 25, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. The orientation lasts approximately 1 hour.
The next training is scheduled for February 8 & 15 from 5:30-8:30 each evening. at the Central Library. Orientation must be completed before attending the training sessions.
There is a $25.00 Material fee for this training
Other volunteer opportunities
There are many other volunteer opportunities that would help the literacy program, including:
- Office support
- Event planning
- Teaching classes
- Doing assessments
- Marketing and fundraising
