The City of Newport Beach serves to keep citizens informed and prepared for any emergency, coordinate resources during an emergency, and provide relief after an emergency. Their goal is to save lives and protect property by developing programs and emergency operational capabilities in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Planning for and responding to disasters and emergencies requires many different actions, such as evacuation for chemical or nuclear accidents, shelter set-ups for major storms, or preparations for power outages. All these activities are coordinated and directed by the Fire Department. The Fire Department tries to help prepare you by providing free brochures and information on emergency situations and preparedness for anything from earthquakes to storms to chemical spills. They can give you information on evacuation procedures, shelter living, and property mitigation. The office is located at 3300 Newport Boulevard. Speakers are also available for groups and specific questions. For more information call 644-3109.
