The City is well-prepared to minimize damage to property in the event of flooding due to high tides or rain events. The Storm Drain Crew operates 86 tidal valves at the end of select streets along the bay which prohibits water from entering the street through the storm drain opening. Additionally, crews can run 18 pumps that drain street ends from standing water.
During storm events or extreme high tides, residents may pick up 10 empty sandbags at the City Corporation Yard. Please bring proof of Newport Beach residency. The bags may be filled with beach sand. If more than 10 sandbags are needed, you may check with your local hardware store for availability for purchase.
