The Newport Beach Police Department feels that one of the best ways to prevent residential crime within your neighborhood is to get involved with your local Neighborhood Watch Group. There are currently over 75 neighborhoods in Newport Beach with active Neighborhood Watch Programs. Through Neighborhood Watch you and your neighbors are educated on Home Security, Personal Safety, when to call the police, and much more.
A typical Neighborhood Watch Group is headed by an Area Coordinator who acts as a liaison between the Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and Block Captains. The Area Coordinator attends six update meetings yearly, where they are provided with the latest statistical information for their area. This information is then distributed to the Block Captains who in turn distribute the information to their neighbors. Block Captains are encouraged to have at lease one Neighborhood Watch meeting a year to maintain communication between neighbors and to meet and educate new neighbors.
