The Alzheimerâ??s Association of Orange County offers a number of different support groups which help City citizens cope with problems and concerns through educational speakers, group therapy, and individual counseling.
This program seeks to bring together Alzheimer's families to share experiences, thoughts, coping methods, and ideas regarding the day-to-day care of patients with Alzheimer's Disease or other similar disorders. Groups are mediated by trained department personnel who lead discussion, provide information, and coordinate activities and events, which include social functions, speakers, and field trips The Alzheimer's Association offers support groups throughout the county. Participation is open to family and friends of Alzheimer's patients, and participation is confidential and free of charge.
Topics of discussion have included physical and medical concerns and resources for thorough medical and neurological examinations, frustrations shared by family members in coping with the patient's memory loss, and ways of dealing with the stress that is often experienced by family members. Community services which may be of benefit to the patient and family are also frequently discussed.
