Parking citations not paid within the 21 days of issuance date will be subjected to a courtesy notice and potentially a late fee. If citation remains unpaid, it could result in further legal action such as collection activity and/or reported to the State Department of Motor Vehicles. If your citation has been reported to the DMV it must be paid before the vehicle can be registered.

In accordance with California Vehicle Code 22651 any vehicle with 5 or more outstanding citations can be towed and impounded at the sole cost and expense of the owner. A vehicle can not be released from impoundment until outstanding citations and related towing costs are paid. Citations written for vehicle code sections 4000A, 5200, and 5204 require vehicle inspection and evidence of violation correction. Evidence of correction may be obtained at ANY police agency during regular business hours. Newport Beach Police Department is located at 870 Santa Barbara Drive, Newport Beach.
