The City of Newport Beach Utilities Department provides water and sewer services to the residents and businesses of the city and services city-owned street lights. The department, regulated by the state is responsible for building and maintaining a utility infrastructure throughout the community that productively serves the populace while remaining energy efficient and unobtrusive to the environment. They collect, treat, and recycle water for use in the city water and sewer systems. The department operates several facilities throughout the City which assist in pumping water and sewer to and from many areas in the City. A few noticeable facilities are the Big Canyon Reservoir, the Utilities Yard and the 16th Street Reservoir and Pump Station. These facilities are occasionally open to tour groups or interested citizens who wish to gain a better understanding of public utilities.
